BQA SUPPORTS FOUR SEASONS

BUSINESS Queen Anne's is presently putting together a letter of support to send to the State's Board of Public Works as it relates to the Four Seasons on Kent Island project. (This Board should meet before the end of July)

Here are our current bullet points:

  • We are impressed with K. Hovnanian's updated plan for Four Seasons at Kent Island and wholeheartedly support it moving full-speed ahead.

  • The revised plan reduces the number of homes by 20 percent and equally shrinks the size of the project. Plus, measures are being adopted that will decrease the impact on wetlands from more than 37,000 square feet to no permanent impact! In addition, there are significant environmental upgrades to the residences, clubhouse and land throughout the site that weren't available 10 years ago.

  • The age 55-plus adults who will live at Four Seasons are exactly the type of neighbors and customers we want. This age group is big on volunteering and their demand for goods and services will have a positive ripple effect throughout the County. It's hard to conceive of a business that will not benefit: from Realtors, beauty shops, local banks, restaurants to grocery stores, plumbers, healthcare services, and more.

  • This project will not impact the public school system, because no child under age 19 is allowed to live at Four Seasons. The community will generate positive revenues for the County - estimated at $122.2 million over 20 years - but only $24.9 million in expenditures. These are revenues that can go to bettering our schools.

  • Our County needs economic development. Without Four Seasons, where is the money going to come from to give our teachers, firefighters and other public workers long overdue raises? How are we going to pay for the upgraded sewer infrastructure that is so desperately needed? How many more times can we say no to much needed tax revenues?

  • And just as important, we need jobs. We need to provide work that will enable our citizens to stay in the County and encourage our young people to stay. More than 6,000 jobs will be created during the construction of Four Seasons and another 595 full- and part-time jobs as a result of businesses patronized by Four Seasons' residents.

  • K. Hovnanian has not only played fair, but gone over and above what is expected from a builder. The company has offered generous incentives to the County - more than $30 million total - and has now come back with substantial reductions to its original plan.
