April 2018

So far, the BQA Board has had a sit down with several Commissioner Candidates. (February was sitting Commissioners Jack Wilson and Mark Anderson. March was candidates Barry Donadio and Helen Bennett.) Business Queen Anne's will not be endorsing candidates publicly but is taking this opportunity to learn about the candidates and hopefully the candidates learn from the BQA board as well!

We appreciated the BQA members who came out to take part in the discussion and encourage any of our members to join us at these meetings!

Here are the candidates that we have lined up for the next two months:
  • April 25th - Steve Wilson, Phil Dumenil
  • May 30th - Chris Corchiarino, George Sigler
These are the topics that have been discussed but if any member has any suggestions, please let us know!

Workforce housing
Moving forward with broadband in QAC
Local Workforce development

All Board meetings are held at Mear's Point Marina in a meeting room located across from the pavilion and accessible from the outside of the building at 4 PM. Just contact Sandra Early, Administrator to RSVP! administrator@businessqueenannes.com

As Maryland scouts locations for new Chesapeake Bay Bridge, hope and opposition emerge

Trey Hill uses satellites and precision farming technology to maximize his wheat, corn and soybean yields here in Kent County. If the planned third span across the Chesapeake Bay landed here, he says, it would destroy the natural barrier between Baltimore and his quiet, 300-acre farm.

Farther south on the Eastern Shore, Danny Thompson wants to preserve that type of quaint appeal. But as the director of economic development in Somerset County, he sees a new bridge as a potential boon, bringing more residents and tourism.

Suzanne Konigkramer, a Kent Islander who commutes across the two spans of the current bridge daily to work in Annapolis, likes the idea of a third span to alleviate gridlock. Just please, she asks: find somewhere else to put it.

"I just don't see a third bridge here at all," she says.

There has been no decision on where to place the third span that Gov. Larry Hogan has proposed across the bay. The results of a $5 million environmental impact study are still years away.

BQA keeps you INFORMED on issues facing economic development, jobs and opportunities right here IN QAC, so the 86% of County residents who spend too much time commuting out of the County and across the bridge every day can actually "LIVE, WORK & PLAY" right here in QAC!!
