April 2013

Charles Lollar, mentioned as a draft candidate for Governor, took the time to talk to the BUSINESS Queen Anne's board at their March meeting.

Mr. Lollar is an American businessman and politician who was a candidate for the U.S. Representative for Maryland's 5th Congressional District. He is a member of the Republican Party.

Lollar won the Maryland Republican Nomination for congress in 2010. He went on to challenge the Democrat incumbent Steny Hoyer to represent Maryland's 5th District. Lollar received more votes and a higher percentage of the vote than any other GOP candidate since 2000. Steny Hoyer's campaign outspent Lollar's campaign 8 to 1. Lollar's campaign raised more money from his home district than Steny Hoyer's whose money came from outside of Maryland and special interests. Lollar defeated Hoyer in 3 out of 5 counties within his congressional district. Lollar won 56.67% of the vote in Hoyer's home county, St. Mary's County, MD.

Charles is Chairman for the "New Day Maryland" PAC. According to the website, it was formed in 2008 and is a forward-thinking political action committee of Maryland business people and citizens looking to bring fiscal and social responsibility back to our state government and support candidates who strive to do the same in fifty states. It goes on to say that Marylaand is ranked 44th in our current government's ability to create a conducive business climate. Our state government has not excelled as a port destination despite our central location on the Bay, which gives us potential to create jobs. We operate poorly in foreign direct investment.

When he spoke to the board, he expressed concern over the financial state of Maryland and says that should be the main focus of a Republican campaign. He would like to reduce corporate tax to 5% and eventually eliminate corporate tax all together. He spoke about major corporations looking to move to Maryland and all of them going to Virginia. Question and answer period highlighted toll facilities/lock boxes, Taxpayers Bill of Rights, Energy Regulations and Pension Liability.
